Sunday the US Women’s National Soccer Team won their third World Cup championship defeating Japan 5-2. Within the first 20 minutes of the game the US had jumped to a four-goal lead. The last time the US Women’s Team won the Cup was in 1999 so it was a well overdue victory.
By the time our boys turned six they were playing soccer. It became part of our life, like eating. At least three times a week we were taking them to practice, then to games on the weekend and road trips to out of town tournaments. Staying in a hotel full of soccer teams, both boys and girls, is something all parents should have to experience. You either come home ready for any challenge or have a complete meltdown!
It didn’t matter if the temperature was 30 or 100 degrees, if it was raining or sleeting, we were there on the bleachers cheering like crazy people. Excitement changed to fear when our oldest son, Chris, lay helpless on the field after he broke his leg. We would do it all over again in a heartbeat. The true world cup winners are the little boys that stole our hearts.
